“Roseanne” originally aired from 1988 to 1997, and ABC canceled the revival after the lead actress, Roseanne Barr, made a racist comment on Twitter attacking Valerie Jarret, a member of the Obama administration.
Although Barr deleted the original tweet, the post said, “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” Barr later blamed Ambien, a drug commonly used to aid sleeping problems, as the cause of her comments.
The Twitter world erupted with thoughts about the situation, and users tweeted a variety of hashtags including #Roseanne, #RoseanneBarr, #RoseanneBarred and #RoseanneCancelled. Here are some of the best Twitter responses to Roseanne Barr’s tweet.
Sanofi
This pharmaceutical company is one of the producers of the sleeping aid, Ambien. After Barr blamed her statements on having Ambien in her system, Sanofi made it very clear racism is not a side effect of any of their products.
People of all races, religions and nationalities work at Sanofi every day to improve the lives of people around the world. While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.

Dictionary.com
Dictionary.com chimed in on the Twitter backlash by providing a lesson to everyone about the similarity of the words “Ambien” and “ambient.” The moral of the story is that ambient means “of the surrounding area of the environment.” It does not mean “prone to making racist comments.”
The name Ambien is thought to come from the word "ambient" or similar words in French. Ambient does not mean "prone to making racist comments," but it does mean "of the surrounding area or environment." https://t.co/UpYY5eKzIo https://t.co/XsPn8FthV5

While Ambien may have a variety of side effects, this list does not include racist tweets. According to this Twitter user, if you find yourself with this side effect, it’s probably best to consult a doctor.
Ambien. May cause dry mouth, nausea, or an uncontrollable compulsion to tweet racist drivel. Consult your doctor today. #ambien #RoseanneCancelled

Jimmy Marguiles
This artist also compared the recent pull of “Roseanne” to the closing of Starbucks for racial bias training. With a piece of tape over her mouth, both Barr and the popular coffee company are shown to be shut down for a similar reason.

President Donald Trump
It wouldn’t be Twitter without some input from Donald Trump. The president put a spin on the controversy, placing himself in the spotlight. He is still waiting for his apology call from Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, about comments made about him on ABC.
Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that “ABC does not tolerate comments like those” made by Roseanne Barr. Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?

Shonda Rhimes
The writer and producer of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Private Practice,” “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder” is famous for addressing prominent social issues on her shows. A previous user of Ambien herself, Rhimes never experienced racism as a side effect of the medication.
Omg. I used to take Ambien! How many times was I racist in my sleep?! GIRL BYE. #ownyouractions

Modern Trailhead
Ambien decided to update their formula after Barr claimed to experience racism as a side effect. Be sure to ask your doctor about the new non-racist formula.
Too late for Roseanne, but Ambien maker Sanofi announced a new Non-Racist formula today. Now you can tweet without fear of your racism unintentionally coming out! 😄 #AmbienTweeting #RoseanneCancelled #Roseanne #Sanofi #NonRacist pic.twitter.com/A3NKoTwRKs
