Who else needs a break from life sometimes? Who do you know that needs a good laugh right about now? Everyone, right? Let me tell you how I accidentally found something that brightened my day. I was doing homework for the five classes that I am taking this semester. I was starting to get stressed, so I took a break and walked away. Sitting in my back room with my cats; I decided to scroll Facebook for a couple of minutes. It was there that I first saw him – this guy I labeled “Funny Gregisms.”
Normally, I scroll past these videos, but for some reason, I decided to watch him. Within 30 seconds, I had stopped the video and called for my oldest daughter, who is 17. She came to the room, I restarted the video and we watched it together. By the end of the couple-minute video, I had tears of laughter rolling down my face, and so did she. I looked on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram for more information about him.

Gregory Kata is a TikTok star famous for his comedy content and thoughts on life in general. He has over 1.5 million followers on the platform and has garnered 21 million likes on his videos. His first post was on April 4, 2020. According to famous birthdays, Kata’s birthday is March 6, 1980, making him 41 years old and a Pisces. Kata has owned Kata Acting and Voice Studio in New Orleans for over 20 years.
His @katatertot Instagram account has over 71,000 followers and 703 posts. At the end of his videos, Kata is known for saying “find your joy” and has merchandise for sale, as well, including T-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, hats and more. There are several assorted styles and sayings on them — it seems like there’s something for everyone.
While these two videos are not the original ones that I saw on Facebook, they are also hilarious. I struggle with the everyday life of homework and bills like everyone else, but Gregism continues to lighten my load and brighten my day. Everyone needs to find something to make them laugh.
One of the classes I am currently taking at Arcadia University is Laughing Matters. We have watched several clips of comedians and learned about how comedy has changed over the years, beginning with silent films and working our way to today’s comedy skits. Every week, I have to find a funny video and post it to my class’s discussion board for homework. Kata’s Hobby Lobby video is one of the videos that I have posted. I have also turned several of my friends and family on to him because of his hilarity; after watching his videos, my loved ones have agreed.
If you watch a couple of his videos, you might also notice that he looks a little like Robin Williams. Although I could not find good pictures for comparison, I did find this video where Kata tells his audience that people have told him he looks like Williams, and I agree with this statement. It happens to be that Williams is also one of my favorite comedians.
As I was digging deeper into Gregisms, I found out that Kata was a Broadway dancer in addition to being a TikTok influencer and a teacher. Kata began training as an actor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama. Then, he went to the Collaborative Arts Project 21 studio with a focus on Stanislavski-based realism. He finished his degree at the Experimental Theatre Wing, studying physical-based performance. Kata worked for 15 years in the entertainment industry before returning to a university setting. It was then that he received his Master of Fine Arts in musical theater from Tulane University and afterward pursued his goal of becoming an actor and a teacher.
Kata has a master’s degree in musical theater and a Ph.D. in pop culture. He lives in New Orleans, Louisiana, and you can follow him on Instagram and TikTok. Kata was also a teacher of theater arts at the Holy Name of Jesus School located in New Orleans. His career includes guest appearances on “General Hospital” and “Veronica Mars,” as well as the Las Vegas production of “Mamma Mia!”
I was amazed to find out just how talented and accomplished he is; he is someone to look up to for sure, all while being hilariously funny. I strongly urge anyone who reads this article to check him out if you need a break from stress or if you just need a good laugh. He has a bunch of videos of him going into different stores he has never been in before, like Hobby Lobby, Big Lots, and so many more. The comments he makes are hilarious. I personally watch him a couple of times a week just to have a laugh and get a much-needed break from school.
I finally found the first Gregisms video I watched on Facebook. After watching this, especially the last part about the weather people naming the hurricanes, I almost fell out of my chair laughing. If you need a laugh, take a minute out of your busy day to amuse yourself with Gregisms, and make sure to share them with others to brighten their day, too.
