Just Married: All the Details on Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma’s Wedding

The couple had an intimate ceremony performed by some of their closest friends before dancing the night away.

After her first marriage to ice hockey player Mike Comrie ended in divorce, fans of former child actress Hilary Duff were left wondering if she would ever find love again. Well, it appears that the “Cinderella Story” star has found her one true love in record producer and musician Matthew Koma.

According to Us Weekly, Duff and Koma met in 2015 when Koma helped out with Duff’s album “Breath In. Breathe Out.” This was just a year after Duff’s split with Comrie, so the couple took a bit of time to form their relationship. They officially started dating in 2016 and, after three years together, the “Raise Your Voice” star announced that she and Koma were expecting a child together. Their daughter, Banks, was born in October 2018.

About six months later, the 32-year-old musician proposed to Duff in New York City along the waterfront while she was filming for her TV show, “Younger.” After that, the couple kept their wedding planning on the down-low until the day of the wedding. On Dec. 21 the adorable couple performed their nuptials in an intimate backyard ceremony at their home in Los Angeles.

The “Lizzie McGuire” star used party planner Yifat Oren, who formerly worked with other actresses such as Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon, to plan her big day. With Oren’s help, Duff and Koma’s home was transformed into an elegant wedding venue. The decorations were beautiful without being over the top. The service took place inside the home with rows of beige and white chairs surrounded by a wall of trees and flowers. Then the celebration was transferred to the yard for the party.

Since the wedding took place just a few days before Christmas, the couple invited a group of carolers to perform as the guests arrived before the ceremony. Then, once all the guests were seated, Koma walked down the aisle accompanied by Duff’s 7-year-old son, Luca, who bore the rings. Next, Duff walked down the aisle holding her 14-month-old daughter, Banks, in her arms along with a tiny pink bouquet.

The bride wore a simple yet sophisticated dress custom made by British designer Jenny Packham accompanied by a pearl headband and earrings. She also had her children’s initials sewn into the dress. When interviewed by Vogue about the dress she said, “They are the biggest part of our ceremony, and obviously the biggest part of our life.” Duff’s mother, Susan, wore a black lace dress with silver dangling earrings, matching Koma and Luca who also wore black for the occasion. Lastly, Banks wore a custom white dress with a pink bow.

The service was officiated by Duff’s “Younger” co-star and best friend Molly Bernard along with actor Chris Mintz-Plasse (McLovin in “Superbad”), who shared their own personal stories about the couple. It was a fun and intimate service filled with love and support for the grateful couple. Duff’s older sister and “Material Girls” co-star Haylie Duff was also in attendance along with her two daughters. “This Is Us” star Mandy Moore and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, were on the guest list as well.

After the service, the newly-bound pair took a moment to snap a photo in front of their car that read, “Just Married.” They also took time for other pictures to be taken alongside their children, Banks and Luca. Duff then changed into a gold two-piece set and changed her earrings from pearls to large gold hoops. She also threw her hair up into a tight low ponytail presenting the perfect party look.

Bernard also changed from the pants she wore to officiate the ceremony into a shiny silver dress and pink metallic sneakers to match with her BFF on her big day. The celebration then began, and the newlyweds danced the night away with their friends and family on a wooden dance floor surrounded by flowers and other garden-like decorations inside a white tent. Bernard posted a photo on Instagram the following day of her and Duff dancing with the caption, “WE BOOGIED.”

Instead of traveling for their honeymoon, the couple decided to stay close to home and have a staycation at a local hotel. According to an unknown source, the couple did not want to abandon their young children so close to the holidays. Although the couple did not get a chance to sneak away someplace foreign and romantic, they do have plans to do so in the near future; they just haven’t gotten around to making them yet.

We wish our favorite childhood actress and her new hubby good luck with their future together. They both deserve a life full of love and happiness and I hope their excitement for one another continues for many years to come.
