The keto diet is set to become one of the trendiest diets of 2019. The diet comes with attractive benefits, like effortless weight loss and boundless energy. It also comes with the potential to prevent and reverse conditions like atherosclerosis, arthritis, diabetes and epilepsy, as supported by scientific research.

With so much to offer, it’s no wonder that social media and reality stars, as well as some A-list celebrities, are jumping on the keto bandwagon. Below are just some of these famous faces explaining why they chose to go keto.

1. Halle Berry

Academy Award-winning Actress Halle Berry is known, among many other things, for her age-defying looks. At 52 years of age, Halle still rocks luminous skin and a fit physique. When asked how she manages to make 52 look like 25, she’ll attribute it to the keto diet as well as her rigorous exercise regimen.

In 2017, she explained on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” that she originally started the keto diet because she’s diabetic, but that the diet has also helped her stay youthful. And Halle’s not wrong for doing so. Studies in patients with type 1 diabetes, which Halle suffers from, found that the diet helps with glycemic control without adverse effects.

2. Tim Tebow

A former NFL quarterback and current baseball outfielder in the New York Mets organization, Tim Tebow has also publicly expressed his support for low-carb eating. Tebow told GQ back in early 2017, “I’m on something called a ketogenic diet which is high fat, moderate protein, low carb, low sugar… For me it’s more than just trying to stay in shape for sports, it’s a way of life, of trying to be healthy.”

He also revealed that avocados are his favorite keto food and that he sometimes eats up to four a day — something not for the faint of heart.

3. Adriana Lima

Adriana Lima was among the first celebrities to endorse a low-carb type of diet. The Brazilian model and most valuable Victoria’s Secret Angel told The Cut way back in 2010 that she barely eats any carbohydrates.

She also explained that her “zero-carb” diet makes her feel much healthier, but that she also has a nutritionist who checks her blood, her breathing and other vitals to make sure everything is working for her body. Her diet back then also consisted of protein shakes, green vegetables, everything grilled or steamed, four ounces of a protein meal and cereal bars, not all of which are keto friendly.

4. Kourtney Kardashian

The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” (“KUWTK”) star says she normally follows a gluten-free and dairy-free diet year-round. But she has also revealed on her app that she had been doing keto and off for a couple of months to detox. Kardashian said she ate “minimal carbs and no grains, beans or legumes.” Kardashian further explained, “I would make broccoli rice or cauliflower rice to at least feel like I was eating some carbs…”

The “KUWTK” star’s eating plan was pretty much consistent with what this diet is all about. She has definitely been in ketosis – the primary goal of the ketogenic diet and the term it gets its name from. She’s also shared her struggles with both the keto diet and the side effects of ketosis.

5. Vinny Guadagnino

One of the best-known members of the “Jersey Shore” cast, Vinny Guadagnino has adopted the ketogenic diet and is sharing his experiences on his Instagram account entitled Keto Guido. Vinny has amassed over 700K followers with his dieting success and delicious-looking keto meals.

As for his motivation to forgo carbs almost entirely, Vinny said in a 2017 post, “I was fat and out of shape from eating too much sugar… Then I followed a keto diet (with one or two cheat meals a week) and the fat went away. It’s that simple. No drugs, pills or shortcuts.”

6. Vanessa Hudgens

The famous actress and singer had to gain 20 lbs. for her role in the 2013 film “Gimme Shelter.” To get back in shape, she used the power of ketones by eating mostly bacon. And because weight loss is never an easy process, she later told Rachel Roy before her debut for her Women’s Health magazine cover that she lost 10 pounds in 30 days with the help of a keto diet.

Aside from bacon, Vanessa’s keto diet consisted of lots of chicken, salmon, avocados, green vegetables, and steak. But there’s more to keto than weight loss. As the actress explains, when she’s not eating carbs, her “energy stays consistent throughout the day.”

Summary

The keto diet has been growing in popularity over the past couple of years, as evident by growing Google searches for the regimen. But it’s not just the general population that’s learning about the benefits of limiting carbs and eating more fat; even celebrities are joining in the keto diet craze.

Some of our favorite celebrities and even social media stars are delighted to share their success on this diet. And while the diet may seem like just another fad that’s soon to pass, keto is actually supported by a century of research. However, if you’re thinking of trying this out for whatever purpose, do speak to your doctor first. Keto is a very restrictive diet still, and it may not be for everyone.
