On Tuesday, the official trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” was released, the newest film to accompany the infamous “Harry Potter” series written by J.K. Rowling. Unfortunately, no matter how hard the producers are trying, fans expressed a lot of dislike toward the new trailer and the twists introduced throughout it.

The main twist introduced in the new “Fantastic Beasts” trailer involves Claudia Kim, who was first introduced on the cast photo on the end of last year. In the trailer, Kim is seen for only a second, but a second was all that was needed to completely explode Twitter, J.K. Rowling style.

In the trailer, Kim is seen transforming into a snake while inside what many have speculated to be a circus cage. Right before the transformation, Credence, played by Ezra Miller, whispers “Nagini.”

Now, true Harry Potter fans know the real scandal behind this decision, as Nagini is seen in the Harry Potter films as one of Voldemort’s dreaded horcruxes. Naturally, fans took to Twitter to express their opinions about the newest addition to the Harry Potter cast. Unfortunately, many of them disagreed with the choice to bring Nagini back in “Fantastic Beasts.”

One user tweeted, “Okay but why does JKR keep introducing new stuff in fantastic beasts that was NEVER MENTIONED in the main series and pretending it always existed in the world?? It’s just messing things up and souring the 7 book series. Leave it alone matey.”

Many fans speculated that Rowling is just keeping the series going for the money, and not to keep the magic alive, which in turn, hurt the magical world that many have grown up with.

Apart from the weird Nagini plot line that seems to be grasping at straws, fans are also still upset about the fact that Grindelwald is played by the problematic Johnny Depp. One Twitter user said, “me: I don’t think anything would make me want to see fantastic beasts less than the support of a wife-beater and the straight-washing of Dumbledore. Jkr: hold my beer.”

To add to the controversy, the series is also receiving hate for Rowling not representing Dumbledore as gay in the “Fantastic Beasts” series, which she had implied in the past. Some argue that there may be some “subtle” hints in the new trailer, but Dumbledore glancing at Grindelwald isn’t really the representation most were looking for.

Law has spoken about this issue in the past and hinted that Dumbledore’s sexuality may be a plot line in later movies in the “Fantastic Beasts” series, as there are an expected five movies, but that was still not enough for fans.

The Harry Potter franchise is one of the most successful and defining franchises of the younger generations, and many feel as though J.K. Rowling needs to just quit while she is, or at least was, ahead. Although many of the plot lines she claims to have “known the whole time,” many feel as though the series would have been best left on its own magical own.

Everyone loves a good “Harry Potter” weekend, but with every new controversy people grow warier about the lasting effects of the “Fantastic Beasts” series. Come on JKR, please don’t ruin this for us.
