Many people will at least once in their lives try their hand at gambling. According to the American Gaming Association, for many people, it will entail traveling to a city with several commercial casinos, which would mean visiting one of the 23 states that currently permit casinos.

Although the fact that Las Vegas and its state, Nevada, generate the most money from casino gambling should come as no surprise to anybody, there are still a lot of other states fighting a good battle to be No. 1.

Three US States With the Highest Casino Revenues

Here are the top three U.S. states that receive the highest revenue from casinos, starting with No. 3, New Jersey.

3. New Jersey

NJ’s casinos earned $4.74 billion in gross casino gaming income in FY 2021-2022.

There are 21 casinos in New Jersey.

It may not be the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of gambling states, but Atlantic City was one of the first gambling havens in the U.S. It is still thriving today. The state still has 21 brick-and-mortar casinos operating, and they help to generate high gambling income each year.

The state of New Jersey also has the distinction of having fully legalized online gambling and online sportsbooks. The history and nostalgia of New Jersey continue to offer one of the most alluring gambling opportunities in the U.S., despite the fact that gambling regulations are being continuously reviewed in adjacent states and Atlantic City is facing greater competition every year.

2. Pennsylvania

PA’s gross casino gaming revenue was $5.04 in FY 2021-2022.

Pennsylvania has 14 casinos.

The first casino opened in Pennsylvania in 2007. Traditional land-based casinos as well as casinos at racetracks featuring slot machines and table games are available in the state. You can also enjoy online gaming and sports betting in Pennsylvania.

The 13 casinos that have opened since 2004 in Pennsylvania, where gambling was formerly prohibited until that year, are proving to be incredibly popular with both residents and tourists. These casinos feature popular games including slots and poker. There is a ton of entertainment available here, whether you choose the Mohegan Sun, the Mount Airy Casino Resort or the Country Place Inn & Suites. But there are more casinos entering the state’s market every year; you can keep track of new PA online casinos at iGaming PA.

1. Nevada

Nevada earned $14.63 billion in gross casino gaming revenue in FY 2021-2022.

There are 433 casinos in Nevada.

Given that Las Vegas has more casinos than any other city in the nation, it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that Nevada is at the top of this list. The world’s gambling capital, which is located in a desert state, attracts visitors from all over the world. The fact that more than 50 million people go to Nevada each year to see whether or not Lady Luck will smile upon them is evidence of Las Vegas’s appeal as the long-time leader in the casino industry.

Las Vegas is a favorite among gamblers for a variety of reasons, not the least of which are its seductive atmosphere of lawlessness and outstanding technological advancements in the gaming industry. About half of the 433 casinos in the state are located in Las Vegas, but those who reside elsewhere have access to a variety of choices, including tribal gambling, poker and horse race betting.
