Watch These Shows on Netflix To Get in the Halloween Mood

Here's something else to binge on, aside from Halloween candy.

There are a plethora of movies made for the Halloween season that leave you with spooky vibes, but finding the right one can be a challenge. When you want to watch something with a decent plotline that lasts more than two hours, Netflix is there for you.

While they might not have been made with the spooky season in mind, these shows still showcase murders, the supernatural, mystery, fear and magic. Here are 8 of the best TV shows to stream this Halloween.

1. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and based off the Archie Comic book series, this show encompasses everything Halloween. From witches to mortals and everything in between, it follows Sabrina, a half-witch, half-human who struggles to navigate between the two worlds. Sabrina must fight to save the humans from magical evil, while still trying to please her family and her coven.

The show includes murders, magic, evil beings, the raising of the dead and much more as Sabrina tries to understand her place in two different worlds; this isn’t an easy task, especially considering every episode involves her fighting some newly emerged evil or making a hard decision about whether the supernatural or human realm means more to her.

2. American Horror Story

Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, this show is actually a miniseries, where every season features a new plotline and characters. While the plot might change with every season, the show sticks within its supernatural, horror base that keeps viewers on their toes. The seasons are known to be extremely artistic and capture the essence of horror.

Almost all of these seasons have been well-received by viewers with exception of the fifth season, which wasn’t as loved as the others, but still enjoyed by many. The show has different actors for every season, with a few exceptions — some people that have been brought back include Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Lady Gaga and Kathy Bates. Since no season follows the same story, these actors play different characters or are only seen in a couple of seasons. If you want a horror series that captures the spirit of Halloween, this is a great one to check out.

3. Charmed

The series created by Jennie Snyder Urman, Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin is a reboot from the original that aired from 1998 to 2006. The newly adapted series first aired October of last year and follows three sisters, Macy, Mel and Maggie, who are brought together through their mother’s death and learn that they all posses magical powers.

Macy has telekinesis, Mel can freeze time and Maggie can read people’s minds. As they learn that they are witches and how to use their new powers, they also become aware of the evil that lurks in their town, realizing that it is up to them to protect the people — a perfect show for witch lovers this Halloween.

4. Once Upon a Time

Created by the same writers as “Lost” and “Tron: Legacy,” this series takes place in Storybrooke, Maine, where the residents are characters from fairytales. The main character, Emma Swan, is actually the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming.

As the story goes, she was placed into a portal to the real world as a child to protect her from being cursed. Growing up in the real world, she had no idea that fairytales were a part of that reality. When Emma’s own son finds her, after having been given up for adoption at birth, she is thrown into a world where villains actually exist and fairytales are more than stories. It is up to her to break the curse on the town and bring back everyone’s memories.

If you’re looking for a good show this Halloween, don’t forget to put “Once Upon a Time” on the list to bring the horrors of fairytales to life on screen.

5. iZombie

Ever wonder what it would be like if zombies lived among humans and worked normal jobs? Olivia Moore has to figure this out after being turned into a zombie and trying to carry on her day-to-day life. She figures out that she has to continue to eat brains or else turn into a brainless zombie, like those in the movies. She takes a job at the local morgue and uses her hunger for brains to help solve murders, because as she eats the gray matter, she can see some of the human’s past memories.

This series might not be full of magic and horror, but if you like the idea of watching a zombie struggle to live daily life, while simultaneously solving murders with the help of a scientist and a detective, then this might be more your speed.

6. Riverdale

Created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, “Riverdale” follows a group of friends who are trying to uncover the mystery of the murder of the local high school football celebrity, Jason. The main story follows Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and Archie Andrews as they get wrapped up in the mystery of the murder and the developing political drama and corruption. As they continue to investigate, they come to realize that their once quiet, small town has more than one murderer and a dark past.

While this show wasn’t made in the spirit of Halloween, its thriller, mystery vibes make it perfect for the season.

A small group of friends — Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Will — live a normal life until Will is attacked and taken to the “Upside Down,” an alternate dimension that has broken through into their world.

While Mike, Dustin and Lucas desperately try to find their friend Will, they meet an unexpected friend instead: Eleven. On the run from the government, Eleven seeks asylum in Mike’s basement as he learns that she is more than just a kid on the run, but has powers that allow her to move things with her mind and see into the alternate dimensions.
