Man’s best friend. Fluffy bundles of joy. The sweet, cuddle-ready heroes that we do not deserve, but still they find their way into our lives.

This past weekend, people from coast to coast celebrated National Dog Day, an entire 24 hours dedicated to the enthusiastic, love-filled creatures that warm our hearts regardless of our circumstances.

From Dachshund to Siberian Husky, dogs have made a lasting impact on the lives of many, acting as a beacon of happiness and positive energy. These cheerful creatures have even carved a place in pop culture, leaving audiences enamored with their bright eyes and droopy ears. This article is dedicated to those pups that brought beaming smiles to our faces even on the roughest of days.

1. Toto

This adorable terrier from “The Wizard of Oz” is Dorothy’s faithful sidekick, standing by her as she realizes with shock that she is, in fact, not in Kansas anymore. In the film, Toto is portrayed by puppy actress extraordinaire Terry, proving that dogs can make it in Hollywood.

Supposedly, Warner Bros. is in the process of creating a new version of the classic “The Wizard of Oz,” this time telling the tale through the eyes of this lovable canine companion.

2. Snoopy

This beloved pupper is a classic, originating from a cartoon and eventually finding his way to the big screen. Even though Charlie Brown was the official protagonist of the “Peanuts” series, Snoopy, the white and black beagle, was the unofficial star of the show.

He was known for his vivid daydreams and various personas, always finding a way to entertain readers and viewers. If Snoopy wasn’t adorable enough on his own, he also had a small yellow bird companion named Woodstock, and together they made for the debatably cutest cartoon creature friendship.

3. Blue

This uniquely colored, furry pal rests in the depths of my childhood, a memory so far away it seems a fictional concoction. “Blue’s Clues” was an iconic children’s show, single handedly shaping many flashbacks of my early years.

I can’t recall much more of the plot of the show than a bright blue dog and his animal friends who hung out with a human who always seemed to have a crayon and notepad handy, but it is a positive stream of recollection regardless.

4. Pluto

While we are on the topic of dogs from our childhood, I can’t forget to add Pluto to the list as well. His silly attitude and endearing goofy demeanor never failed to keep children laughing. Of course, this bright, yellow ball of constant energy belonged to the famous mouse named Mickey, which is quite a bizarre situation once you really think about it. It gets even weirder when you consider the fact that Goofy, one of Mickey’s best friends, was also a dog, but took on more of the role of a human than a dog.

This one is for all the dogs out there. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Woof woof, my friends, woof woof.
