As you go on with your studies, your subjects become even more complex and advance. You are progressively pushed to think, evaluate and put your opinions on paper. Learning will become more on analysis and critical thinking, which is best demonstrated through the research papers that you are required to complete. 1. Get Organized

If you feel that you can work out your research using the internet, think again—bedrooms or homes are not made for studying yet libraries are. You might waste precious time loafing and procrastinating at home when you can concentrate better at the library.

2. Make a Timeline

List out everything you want to read, and get your materials ready before you start writing your research paper. Think about the time you will spend reading, researching, planning and writing. Be sure to allot a day or two to make significant changes before the deadline.

Research-paper writing can be stressful and agonizing, especially if you are to beat a deadline. Moreover, it’s hard to let creative juices flowing when writers are under pressure.

3. Gather More Information

In most cases, professors would provide a reading list for your research or suggest where to look for information.

There are also instances in which you are left on your own to explore and find resources yourself. It is always an extra point for you to find some information that will add breadth or a fresh perspective to your paper. But it is still important to carefully think about whether your source is valuable and reliable.

4. Take Notes

Note taking might be boring to some, and it is no longer the fad, but taking notes will save you a lot of time during the planning stage of your research paper. You will find some info that seems interesting, and some that is strictly relevant to your research—make note of this stuff. With this information readily available, you will be able to answer your research argument and use that interesting data to work your way into your essay.

Rather than just highlighting or underlining them, type out notes or write them as you read, so that you will not waste time looking through the whole document looking for important quotations.

5. Plan It All Out

Planning is the most important step in any endeavor, including writing a research paper, but it is also the step that is usually rushed or neglected.

Poor planning might lead to poor structure or unclear arguments. Make a step-by-step guide on how you are going to go about your research and emphasize significant areas. Expect the whole process to be hard and laborious, but you will be rewarded with an easier writing process—just like connecting dots or polishing bullets into sentences and paragraphs.
