The 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards came with winners and losers in more ways than one. Some of these stars should have thanked their stylist along with their agent and God, and some should stop trying to dress themselves. I’ll get on with it because I like my best dressed lists the way I like my awards speeches: short and sweet with the glisten of a tear at the end.
My absolute best dressed goes to Bridesmaids actress Rose Byrne. In Elie Saab Fall/Winter 2009 Haute Couture Collection she beat out the competition with ease—in a jumpsuit.
Viola Davis of The Help looked amazing in a white Marchesa Grecian-inspired silk chiffon gown with gold detail. Not only did she look like a winner, but she took home a SAG award as well.
Glee’s Jayma Mays wore a black Reem Acra embroidered gown with cap sleeves and lace detail from the Fall 2011 collection and Neil Lane jewelry.
George Clooney and Stacy Keibler also went with not-so-basic black complementing one another with a Giorgio Armani tuxedo and a lace fishtail Marchesa gown.
Colombiana actress Zoe Saldana dazzled in Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci Spring Summer 2012  in a white silk organza dress and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. After a second look, she’s by far one of my favorites of the night.
Giuliana Rancic was working and working it all at the same time.  The E! News host outshined many of the stars she interviewed in a red Basil Soda gown.
30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden looked appropriately bridal (she's recently engaged) in an Amsale champagne gown with floral beaded overlay.
Natalie Portman showed off a very post-baby body in a Giambattista Valli gown. I especially appreciate the platinum and yellow gold setting of her Harry Winston earrings—nothing complements the gown’s hue better.
Actress Amber Heard wore an impressive Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2012 black cutout gown.
Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy (aka the funniest woman on the red carpet) wowed in a Badgley Mischka Couture navy gown with a beaded cowl neck that I wish was just a few inches more dramatic.
The Descendants actress Shailene Woodley should have left the floral print on set in Hawaii in this L'Wren Scott gown.
Angeline Jolie just wasn’t quite the movie star she usually is as she fell flat on the carpet in this draped Jenny Packham gown.
Jenna Ushkowitz left me less than Gleeful in this Rebecca Minkoff floral gown. I would have loved it at the Teen Choice Awards, just not here.
Glee’s Amber Riley hit a sour note in this Badgley Mischka lace dress with huge bow detail.
Busy Philipps should have preoccupied herself with looking polished for the red carpet before looking so disheveled in this SIMONE by Katie Nehra dress.
