Posted by admin on Monday, June 6, 2011

Usually the United States and South Korea send millions of tons of rice and food to North Korea.

However, this year both countries are withholding shipments after North Korea fired artillery at a South Korean island, killing two civilians and two soldiers.

Quick facts:

  • Between 900,000 and 3.5 million North Koreans starved to death in the 1990s.
  • 6 million out of North Korea's 24 million people "urgently need food aid.
  • North Koreans are eating grass, leaves and bark to survive.
